The Neg Maron Statue was created by Haitian sculptor Albert Mangonès, this bronze statue commemorates the abolishment of slavery and symbolizes black liberation. It depicts a near-naked fugitive black man, kneeling on one knee, with a broken chain on his left ankle. In one hand, he holds a conch shell to his lips, while the other hand grasps a machete. The statue’s powerful imagery represents the struggle for freedom and the rallying cry that sparked the Haitian Revolution.
